2020: What a year…. and it’s not over yet!

2020 was going to be the year I finished the house (at least attempt to). Well Covid-19 put an end to that idea. But what is important is that we stay safe and protect ourselves and others so having to stay in the UK under ‘lockdown’ was a small price to pay, however frustrating it was.

We got out to France at the beginning of July when the UK goverment lfted there effective travel ban and we avoided our normal route of the Portsmout – Caen ferry and took the car over on Eurotunnel. A much longer drive (11 hours vs 6) but overall time was probably quicker than the ferry. France seemed close to ‘normal’ with the compulsory mask wearing when vsiting shops, restaurants (until you sit down!) etc appearing to work well.

On the drive down we stopped at Chateauroux and the airfield there was being used to store Bristish Airways A380 fleet. Amazing to see all these planes sitting there idle.

Projects still to be completed:

House:

  • Master bedroom and en-suite
  • Render external breeze block walls
  • Shelf on stairs
  • Hall cupboard shelving and doors
  • Finish decorating front guest bedroom

Garden:

  • Tiling around the pool
  • Work on the outbuilding to make them usable as sheds/storage

We managed to make some progress on a couple of these but I can’t see it being finished this year 🙁
