The Storm
Early Thursday morning we were woken by the sound of wind, rain and thunder. The noise was pretty deafening and as Sue got up to look out of the window I asked her how the gazebo was given the experience we had last year when the wind got up. To be on the safe side this year I had installed some wall anchors to tie the guy ropes to. So I was a little surprised by the response I received: “What Gazebo?” The Girls and I watched the storm for the next 30 minutes with lightning of all descriptions filling the sky and surrounding us, it was second only to a storm I saw in Florida in the late eighties in it’s lightning content.
So the next morning this was the site of where the gazebo should have been covering the sun loungers:
Sue went out to look for it and found it the other side of a 10 foot hedge some 20 yards away:
After the destruction of an identical gazebo (we had 2) last year we kept the good parts so after a couple of hours work combining the two we had it back up almost as good as new. The guy ropes had either broken or ripped out of the material so my wall anchors were of little use in the end.
We must come up with a more rugged solution for next year!
