Finding a doctor…
One of the kids woke up in the middle of the night with bad earache. While painkillers did the trick thought we should have it checked out by a doctor, as with the weekend approaching didn’t want to risk not being able to see a doctor until Monday.
So a couple of calls to local friends and we had names of two local medical centres. After consulting the French dictionary for the right words I phoned and was given an appointement an hour later! We were kept waiting for about an hour but saw a doctor, explained the problem, she confirmed an ear infection, wrote a prescription for 3 lots of drugs (after asking for the patients weight – that caused us do some quick calculations from stone to Kg!) and then asked for her fee – 20 euros. The doctor actually takes the money, not the receptionist.
Then off to the pharmacy where we were for all of 3 minutes – very efficient and only 16 euros.
It had to happen sometime but we now know how the system works!
